5 Months Old!

Look at those chunky cheeks!  Henry is growing like a weed, and he has changed so much in just one month.  I packed clothes for him to go to my parents for the holidays, and he completely grew out of them and his diapers in the two weeks that we were there!  I love my little buddy.  I have to hear at least one belly laugh a day--I call it my giggle quota.  Now for the stats....

Size:
I haven't gotten him weighed this month but I did step on the scale with him, and he is somewhere between 18 and 19 lbs.
Diapers--size 2 but we are going to need to move to size 3 as soon as we finish this little batch
Clothes--he is not out of 3-6 month clothes and already starting to fill out 6-9 month outifts.

Milestones:
Still not rolling over, but I know he can do it.  If I give him the slightest little help, he can roll over.  I honestly just don't think he has figured out yet that he can use it for transportation.
The biggest milestone I've noticed this month by far is his hand coordination.  He is reaching for everything in sight (including anything I have in my hands), and he can pass objects from one hand to the other.  We upgraded his pacis to 6 month size (thanks Mimi--I still had him in 0 month size) and now Henry enjoys showing off his paci tricks.  My favorite thing to do is to move the paci into his reach and watch him grab it and put it in his mouth.  He is sometimes successful with getting it in his mouth correctly but other times he just chews on the sides.
Preference for toys- he is definitely starting to show that he likes some toys more than others.  He loves the little ducky in the picture above.
Talking- Henry loves to talk/scream especially with his daddy.  It always cracks me up and warms my heart to listen to all of the little sounds that he comes up with.  This morning, he woke up wanting to spit and talk at the same time, and he continued to do this all day long...so funny!
Henry is also starting to get upset when he sees me leave the room while he is playing during the day.  And he goes absolutely crazy over his daddy.  Here is their favorite activity by far....airplane.  Henry just squeals and squeals when Shaun starts the plane.

Sleeping and Eating:

Naptimes are so much better.  I've really worked on getting a nap routine this month, and Henry seems to be responding.  I have found that Henry and I both don't do well with strict crying it out so I do the Baby Whisperer method of going in just to settle him and then leaving.  I put his paci back...hand him his blankie...tuck his blanket around him and if he is very upset I hold my hand on his chest until he calms down...then I tell him night night and leave the room.

Nighttime- Well we have some good and bad as far as this month goes with night sleeping.  The good is that we have a great evening routine that is working for all of us.  Henry usually goes to bed around 7:30, and I try to stay pretty consistent with his bedtime.  The bad is that with moving up his bed time...I'm losing a little more sleep because his longest stretch is when I'm awake.  I'm trying not to feed as much at night, but I can still tell Henry is hungry so I'm working on trying to get him to eat more during the day.  I'm still hoping and praying that Henry will soon sleep through the night.  I'm getting up about 3-4 times a night and that is pretty much like a newborn ;).

Eating--Nursing is still going well.  We just have to have complete silence and usually a pretty dark or boring area to nurse.  I have also found that I need to feed him as soon as he wakes up without waiting no matter what time it is because he eats better when he is still a little sleepy.  Henry is adoring solid foods.  He gets pretty excited when I put his bib on him and open a jar of food.  I'm hoping he is going to continue being such a good little eater.

On another note....this week is international de-lurking week.  There is nothing wrong with just reading and not commenting, but it would bring me so much joy to hear from who is reading out there.  How did you find my blog if you remember?  There is an option where you don't even have to log in to comment so feel free to use that option.  I lurk on many blogs without commenting myself so I completely understand if you have never commented before but it would just be so much fun to hear from all of you.  I know y'all are out there because I have a counter!

Henry is so cute! I can't believe how big he is! I still can't decide if he looks like his Mommy or Daddy yet? Glad things are going better for you guys! Love seeing new pictures of the little dude!

He is getting so big. Have you tried cluster feeding in the evening before bed. I did that and my youngest slept better. I would nurse when we got home, 6pm again at 7 pm and then again at about 7:45 just to top her off. She would sleep until about 2, get up and nurse and then back down until about 5:30-6 am.

Wow! I can't believe you are still having to get up so much! I agree with trying cluster feeding. That worked GREAT with Mary THomas. Also, if he's waking up at the same time every night, you might want to try letting him cry for a little bit. The first night i tried that with MT, she cried for 10 minutes and then she was back asleep- and slept through the night every night after that! :)

What a wonderful mama you are. Praise the Lord for such a gift as children.

He really is getting so big! What fun - love the pictures!! And he will figure out that he can roll wherever he wants to in no time :) Just enjoy that you can put him down and he is still stationary, because that will change in no time!!! Keep the pictures coming :)

what a little chubber! so cute! & i think as he gets older, he's startin to look a bit more like his mama. :)
i'd be patient with the night feeding. my boys both woke up like that until almost 7 mos, & then it was like something clicked, & we were just getting up 3 times, then 2, & now at 9 mos we're only getting up once around 5 in the morning. he'll give it up when he's ready.

& there's something about daddies & airplane, isn't there? i've yet to meet a baby who doesn't love daddy to fly him around :)

henry seems like such a happy little man-- you're doing a great job courtney!

Hi, visiting from South Africa. I think I've commented before... found you when we were both pregnant. You were ahead of me BUT mine decided to come 8 weeks early so they've just turned 6 months.

Love your milestones post and also the way you keep it real, COurtney.

We are also still up 1 - 2 times with Connor and 2 - 3 times with Kendra every night.

I'd love to hear more about your bedtime routine :)

I was up with both my boys 3 to 4 times a night until Cooper was almost 7 months and Mason was almost 8 months. Then they just decided one night to sleep through the night and that was that, they slept through the night from then on! Sleeping through the night may be just around the corner even though you are still getting up several times a night. Just wanted to give you some hope and encouragement! Henry is a cutie! I think he looks just like Shawn right now. :)

So funny that you mentioned the de-lurking! I was reading tonight and thinking I was going to post a comment letting you know that we don't know eachother, but I stumbled across you a couple weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blogs. I have read them both beginning to end! Your posts have been a blessing and an encouragement to me. Although my husband and I are blessed to have 3 healthy children, we would love to have a 4th. I know that may seem crazy, but our family just doesn't quite seem complete. We have been struggling with secondary infertility. It took quite a while for me to get pregnant with our others, but now we have been trying for 14 months and I just turned 30 in September. I did find out I was pregnant August 16th, only to miscarry on August 27th. It was a terrible experience. I am currently on CD 23 after taking my first round of clomid and am praying for a positive result. Anyhow, I hope this wasn't TMI, but I thought the background of why your blog has blessed and encouraged me was significant. Thanks so much for sharing your feelings and experiences!

Oh, and with everything else I said, I forgot to mention the most important thing.... HENRY IS ADORABLE! What a little doll!

I've been lurking since before you had Henry. I think I came across your blog through PAL on WebMD. That site helped me maintain some sanity when I was pregnant after 2 miscarriages. I am just so happy that you are enjoying your little guy so much! You went through so much to get him here from what I read on your previous blog. I enjoy the updates and pictures!

Henry is such a cutie! It is so fun reading up on him because I have a 5 month old as well. Aren't they growing up so fast??

I hope the nighttime sleep gets better for you. My daughter will sleep at night but forget naps!

Hi Courtney, I'm very guilty of lurking :) I often read through my google reader on my phone, it doesn't let me post comments, and I always forget to come back to comment, so thanks for calling us out!

Henry is so incredibly adorable and is growing so fast! These boys are just so hungry and love cuddles from the momma's in the middle of the night, don't they? I try to let Grady fuss a little before I go running to his room, and he's started settling himself back in. A few times a week I do end up feeding him if he can't settle himself back down. Sometimes it's because he's dropped his paci outside of his crib, and all I need to do is lay him down, plug him back in and cover him up. I just can't bear to hear him cry for more than a few minutes, and I know something's not right if he can't get himself back down.

Hi!
I am Michelle's mom. I came across your website through Michelle's blog when you were about halfway through your pregnancy with Henry. I have enjoyed reading everything you have posted on both blogs. Your heart goes into everything you share with us. You have made me cry, you have made me smile, you have made me laugh out loud! You and Shawn have been blessed with a beautiful son. Enjoy your days and nights :) because all become a precious memory. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hey look! You made my mom post! Hi mom! Good job coming out of lurker mode! ;)

Anyway, I forgot to post that I met you back in 2006 on WebMD. Then we crossed paths again in 2008/2009 on the boards again when I started to follow your first blog...I think right when you started it...because I remember one of those very first posts!

You are such an inspiration!

Hi Courtney,

I am one of those who lurk, but never comment. I came across your blog over a year ago on Web MD. I have enjoyed reading about your journey to motherhood and am so happy for you and your husband. Henry is just precious and I wish you all the best for the new year!

I admit it, I am a lurker :) I found your blog linked from another IF blog in like 2008. I started reading blogs while my husband and I went through some "unexplained" issues. (We tried for a over a year before we got pregnant with our first - he is 7 months old now.) I loved your blog especially bc of your positive attitude and faith. Thanks for sharing!

Hi! Thanks for the sleep training hints! I posted an update, we got lucky last night but we will see how tonight goes. My thing is that I need to lay him down before he falls asleep, I am bad at that! I just love rocking him when he sleeps, it is just such a sweet time and I don't want to let go :(

I've enjoyed reading your blog since just before Henry was born (you were on bedrest at the time). I was on bedrest as well and I loved reading pregnancy blogs to pass the long hours. I was on bedrest for two months and it was nice to know others were in the same boat! My little guy was born about a month after yours so it's fun to see what I might be able to expect in the next month or so. Congratulations on your little one! He is so adorable!!

Hi! I know the week has passed but I still wanted to say hi! I actually just stumbled upon this blog. I read your other blog and had NO clue that you had started this one. So I have been looking back through your posts at your adorable son.

I was blog hopping and thought I would leave a comment per your request. :) What a beautiful boy you have. But also wanted to say that your post on the Girl in the Purple Shirt. How very touching. While I have 2 children, every now and then that trip thru the baby section leaves me longing too.
